We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our Transportation team. This position combines hands-on mechanical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that highway maintenance equipment is serviced efficiently and safely. By coordinating a team of mechanics, overseeing work plans, enforcing safety standards, and liaising with various stakeholders—including planners, forepersons, and suppliers, the Leadhand plays a pivotal role in maintaining equipment reliability, optimizing repair schedules, and supporting the broader transportation maintenance goals of HPW.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic

  • Experience leading, mentoring, coaching, and general management of a team of Heavy-Duty Technicians

  • Experience in a heavy equipment environment, diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance inspections on heavy equipment

  • Experience using a variety of computer programs

    Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of regeneration systems
  • Knowledge of electronic controls for hydraulic systems

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following conditions of employment:

  • Yukon Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement, or
  • Yukon Class 1 driver’s license with air endorsement endorsement (to be obtained within 1 year hire),
  • Pass TMB Competency assessment on heavy equipment (grader, loader, dump truck or tractor trailer).
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • Valid Canadian Journeyperson certification in one of the following: Heavy Equipment Technician, On-Highway Technician, or Off-road Technician.

Job Requirements

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following job requirements:

  • Travel throughout the territory,
  • Work in adverse weather conditions,
  • Use personal protective equipment,
  • Personal tool kit.
  • Steel toed Work boots
