##About the job
In this role, you will:
- provide weather station expertise by; reviewing new technology, valuation of weather instrumentation, arranging the purchase of equipment associated with the operation and maintenance of the weather station network, preparing operational work plans, providing input on weather station site selection and negotiating use of land for the installing of weather equipment
- install, adjust, repair, calibrate and modify weather monitoring instrumentation and telemetry equipment
- provide meteorological services for emergency incidents, wildfires, prescribed burns and other clients by installing and operating weather equipment
- provide collaborative meteorological services with the Provincial Weather Office that includes; weather watches, site-specific forecasts, and issuance of weather service products
- provide training and education about meteorology and weather equipment at meetings, courses and seminars
##What you bring to the team
###Mandatory requirements

You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Note: This position will require some travel with the ability to work in any area of the Province and/or Canada when necessary.
###Technical expertise:
- You have expert knowledge of the principals and practices of meteorological instrumentation and methods of observation.
- You have expert knowledge of the scientific application of various weather guidance products in understanding current weather phenomenon and assist in the preparation of forest fire behavior forecasts.
- You understand synoptic and boundary layer meteorology to analyze weather data and assist in preparing forecasts for emergency incidents.
- You have knowledge of the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System to recognize the linkages between weather data and fire behavior.
- You have formal knowledge and training in operational meteorology.
###Equipment and computer proficiency:
- You have work experience with electronics, telemetry and instrumentation technology to install, test, repair and calibrate sensitive weather equipment.
- You are proficient with computers and various applications, including forecasting models, word processing, databases, internet, and decision support systems to operate fire management information systems.
###Analytical and problem-solving skills:
- You are able to determine optimal location of weather stations, and troubleshoot technical problems to make recommendations on the weather station network and new technology.
- You have analytical skills to recognize both random and systemic problems in weather data to identify trends and deficiencies in the weather station network.
- You have the ability to select and develop forecasting techniques and approaches in order to fine-tune and assist with forecasts for specific locations.
###Communication and interpersonal skills:
- You have well developed interpersonal skills to participate in meetings and workshops that support education and training for meteorological services.
- You have proven communications skills to work harmoniously with weather partners to ensure awareness and provide feedback from onsite deployments and regional offices.
- You have written communication skills to prepare and evaluate documents, plans, business cases and reports on weather equipment and data.
###Planning and time management skills:
- You have the ability to prepare plans, budgets and proposals relating to weather station and equipment deployment and maintenance.
- You have planning and coordinating skills to ensure managers and staff are kept apprised of weather related developments, trends, priorities and recommendations.
