We are actively seeking an Operations Specialist to join our Lloydminster Thermal Business Unit team. Reporting to the Senior Foreman, this role is responsible for providing the operations teams with daily direction to operate in a safe, efficient, and environmentally conscious manner. This role will optimize facility throughput, reduce CPF downtime and maintain all processes within specification. The Operations Specialist will provide technical leadership in identifying and implementing ideas which will improve productivity, efficiency and safe operations while practicing operating cost management to support the Sr. Foreman - Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with, and commitment to promoting, Strathcona’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and regulatory policies, and practices
  • Act as a Leader in promoting a strong safety culture through proactive reporting, safety meeting participation, site hazard and risk assessments, lockout procedures. etc.
  • Contribute to proactive reporting targets
  • Due to enhanced operating knowledge, take independent action to address any substandard condition or activity and communicate to team members lessons learned
  • Continually maximizing CPF throughput and operating cost efficiency
  • Foster continuous improvement and development of the Operations team on-site.
  • Act as first point of contact for production and operational information and guidance
  • Troubleshoot complex process problems, identify opportunities for improvement and optimization, and document changes
  • Maintain communications with various departments (Production, Engineering, Maintenance and Operations).
  • Plan, manage, direct and coordinate the operational and strategic activities of the business unit.
  • Ensure that the operating procedures for the plant are understood, observed, and complied with consistently
  • Responsible for mentoring and directing Operations staff
  • Assist in providing direction to contractors and new to site workers
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship on the operation of the CPF
  • Perform one on ones and work with staff on completing their yearly performance goals and performance review process.
  • Work with the Senior Foreman on cost and budget discipline throughout the year
  • Oversee shift scheduling to ensure appropriate area coverage.
  • Support management decisions with honest and open communication with all employees

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Second-Class or Third-Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Minimum 7+ years of industry experience with steam generation (SAGD or CSS) with a strong operational knowledge of SAGD well pair operation, steam production, oil treating and multi-phase pipelines.
  • Demonstrate competence in corporate work processes and values.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills that enable good decision making and judgement.
  • Maintain and promote professional and positive attitude.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team effectively.
  • Demonstrate flexible/innovative thinking skills and be receptive to new ideas, concepts and divergent views.
  • Support consistent operational practices across all shifts.
  • Willing to provide constructive feedback on operator development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

Work Environment:

  • Position based in a plant setting.
  • Available for after-hours facility troubleshooting support.
  • Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the area.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required.
