POSITION/TITLE: Language Nest Assistant
NATURE & SCOPE OF WORK:
Chief Atahm School is seeking a caring, energetic individual to assist in the Language Nest program. The successful candidate will support daily activities that nurture children’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and cultural development — all within a Secwepemctsin language immersion environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures compliance with standards of health and safety
- Works co-operatively with Employees
- Assist in activities by interacting with children in Secwepemctsin.
- Plan activities that enhance creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
- Guide and assist children in daily routines such as eating, dressing, and toileting.
- Supervise children and intervene when necessary to ensure safety and well-being.
- Support co-workers in implementing programs that promote holistic child development.
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for meals and rest periods.
- Discuss children’s progress and concerns with the Nest Coordinator.
- Maintain learning materials and equipment in good condition.
- Perform light cleaning after meals, activities, and at the end of the day.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Well organized and able to work within timelines;
- Experience working with very young children.
- Food Safe Certificate (required).
- First Aid training (an asset).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to consent to a Criminal Record Check.
- Understanding, speaking, reading, and/or writing Secwepemctsin is an asset.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bonafide Occupational Requirements
- Current and Acceptable Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector clearance acceptable to ALIB
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Fixed term position: Nov. 3, 2025 – May 29, 2026
Hours per week: 18 hrs / week (Wed-Friday 8:30-2:30)
Hourly wage: $23.66 - $25.49 (depending on credentials and experience)
