The Position:
Neelands is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team immediately. This is a fast-paced, high-volume environment supporting recruitment across skilled trades and office roles. As part of the Human Resources team, you will be involved in all aspects of the employee life cycle, with responsibilities spanning Ontario and the U.S. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, a practical and proactive approach, and a high level of confidentiality and discretion. Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Business Partner, you will play a key role in supporting our people strategy and delivering exceptional service to the business.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Provincial and State labour and health and safety legislation
- Provide counsel by applying knowledge and experience in interpreting HR policies, procedures, and payroll
- Initial point of contact on employment-related matters including but not limited to policy compliance, attendance management, worker's compensation and return to work, conflict resolution and employee life cycle
- Respond to employee inquiries on pay, time away balances, benefits, RRSP/DPSP and 401K
- Assist in talent acquisition and recruitment processes
- Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise
- Maintain digital files for employees and their documents, training, certificates, licenses, benefits, and attendance records
- Provide guidance and coaching on performance management, including developing action plans and progressive discipline
- Generating official internal documents such as offer letters, transfer and promotion letters, and warning letters
- Provide recommendations to improve processes and HRIS system features
- In collaboration with the Human Resources team, establish and execute organizational training needs
- Support miscellaneous HR projects and act as a backup to other HR team members
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management
- 5+ years’ experience in a Human Resources position, preferably in environments like construction, skilled trades, service industries, or unionized workplaces
- CHRP or CHRL designation (completed or currently in progress)
- Solid working knowledge of the Ontario Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Human Rights Code
- Intermediate to advance in MS Office (especially Excel)
- Experience with HRIS systems such as Ceridian, ADP, PeopleSoft or etc.
- Knowledge of US Labour legislation is an asset
