Summary:
L’Arche Ottawa is currently seeking compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to join our team! PSWs play an essential role in supporting adults with intellectual disabilities (known as Core Members) in their homes, ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. Core Members are adults over the age of 18 who may also experience physical, mental, or sensory disabilities.
This is more than just a job — it's an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and contribute to a community where everyone belongs.
Location:
We currently have five L’Arche houses in Ottawa where people with and without disabilities live together. We have a Community Centre located 11 Rossland Ave, Ottawa, ON, where our administration team and Day Program work. Our community gatherings also take place in our Community Centre.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Building Community & Living the Mission
- Embody and promote the values and mission of L’Arche.
- Foster a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all.
Providing Personal Care & Daily Living Support
- Provide high-quality personal care with dignity and respect.
- Administer medication (upon completion of required training).
- Maintain accurate daily documentation and records.
Supporting Daily Routines & Household Tasks
- Prepare nutritious meals and support Core Members in meal participation.
- Assist with household chores, including cleaning, laundry, shopping, and maintaining the yard.
Building Relationships & Community Connections
- Develop meaningful relationships within the home and beyond.
- Participate in celebrations, traditions, and activities within L’Arche.
- Facilitate activities that encourage community engagement.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with team members and supervisors to ensure consistent, compassionate care.
- Communicate effectively and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Accept feedback and participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one supervision.
Safety, Policy & House Maintenance
- Follow all policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Participate in regular safety checks, including fire drills.
- Support the upkeep of the home, including furniture, equipment, and vehicles.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Starting at $23.37, commensurate with experience and education, following L’Arche Canada’s Compensation Policy.
