About the role

WF Steel & Crane is a leading fabricator of structural steel and overhead cranes located south of Edmonton in the Nisku Industrial Park, Alberta. We are currently looking for a talented and experienced leaders to join our Nightshift Team!

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Certified Journeyman in the applicable trade (Welder or Structural Fitter).
  • Previous experience in a fabrication shop.
  • Strong focus on shop safety
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and cut lists.
  • Ability to read and understand job specifications.
  • Ability to convey accurate and efficient communication regarding all shop related activities.
  • Ability to competently use all trade-specific and industry standard tools/machinery.
  • Rigging Competency
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role.
  • Working knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English Language.

Scope Management Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Company Safety Culture, following all policies and procedures
  • Distribute Workload on a daily basis to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Mentor employees in the proper use of tools to meet the specific job requirements.
  • Inform management of any issues that may affect schedule.
  • Work with employees to ensure that all materials/components are cut and fabricated to exact design specifications.
  • Read, understand and follow all Safe Work Practices and Procedures for machinery and equipment.
  • Oversee work to anticipate, detect, and address factors that impede operations.
  • Work with the Maintenance Department to ensure that all equipment and machinery are properly operating and maintained.

Personnel Management Responsibilities

  • Supervise, monitor and mentor all employees in the shop, continuously leading by example.
  • Creation and management of of staff, maintenance, and work schedules.
  • Promote a positive Safety Culture.
  • Enforce safety regulations and protocols, participating in the Observation Program.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews with staff as required.
  • Meet with management to deliver feedback and develop work optimization strategies.
  • Assist the Superintendent/Production Manager to effectively manage staffing levels in accordance with projected work levels by providing feedback on work performance.
  • Address Employee concerns in a timely manner, managing situations with discretion, care, and due diligence.
  • Report any employee issues or prospective issues to Human Resources and/or Senior Management in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in the investigation process.
  • Assist in employee performance management through accurate documentation (absentee reports, verbal/written warnings, etc.) and the corrective action procedure.
  • Work with probationary employees to ensure that work requirements are met and understood.
