About the role
Our client just closed a significant round and is building fast. They operate in the cybersecurity space, protecting enterprise infrastructure at scale. The product is proven and now they need someone to own the engineering org. This is the first dedicated VP of Engineering hire. You are building the function, not stepping into one.
Required 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in an engineering leadership role Proven track record of scaling engineering teams in a high-growth startup (Series A–C or post-funding environment) Hands-on experience hiring across technical roles, including software engineering, security, and infrastructure Deep understanding of cloud architecture, distributed systems, and modern software development practices Experience building and managing remote-first engineering teams Strong instincts for balancing speed and quality in a resource-constrained environment Comfortable working without a large org beneath you; this is a builder role, not an inheritor role
Nice to Have Background in cybersecurity, SaaS, or defense tech Experience with government or federal contractor environments and relevant compliance frameworks Familiarity with security-focused product development (pen testing tools, SIEM, endpoint security, etc.) Prior experience as a founding or first engineering leader
COMPENSATION $270K – $300K base salary Up to 20% annual bonus Equity
