Location
This position is required to work in person at various recreation centres throughout the City. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. The primary work location of this position is still to be determined. Effective January 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking two Aquatic Coordinators to support the delivery of diverse aquatic recreation programs across our facilities. These roles offer a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact in the community while developing valuable leadership, program management, and customer service skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic recreational professional to be involved in aquatic programming, assisting senior supervisory staff in the development, scheduling, coordination and implementation of recreation and aquatic water safety initiatives. The work involves training and assisting in the supervision of staff and programs.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics you will be responsible for:
Planning, organizing, and promoting water safety and aquatic programs, events and services throughout the community. Ensuring high quality program delivery and customer service. Assisting the Aquatics Coordinator in training, motivating, supervising, and evaluating part time staff and volunteers. Ensuring risk management is a priority and acting as liaison with facility operations staff to maintain a clean and safe facility. Assisting with program planning where needed.
Requirements
You have a community college diploma or university degree in recreation or a related field along with two years of experience in a variety of aquatic program areas and age groups. Aquatics administration and supervision are an asset.
You demonstrate strong organization, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills and have a good knowledge of aquatic programs. You exercise independence of judgement and action within the limits of well-defined guidelines, procedures. Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Xplor are an asset. You will be required to work evenings and weekends in addition to weekday daytime hours. As travel to other locations is required, you must provide your own transportation.
Qualifications and Certifications
The following certifications are required: National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid with CPR C, Airway Management, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructors, Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructors, and HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development.
The following certifications are considered an asset: National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiners, Standard First Aid Instructor and Examiners, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, Examiner Mentor, Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor, Certified Pool Operator and HIGH FIVE - Quest 2.
Experience in facilitating training or planning large events is preferred.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
Police Check Requirement
This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
