The Microbiology Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Microbiology lab by preparing and processing clinical specimens, maintaining lab supplies and equipment, and performing routine laboratory duties. The technician ensures that samples are handled accurately and efficiently in compliance with quality, safety, and infection control standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, accession, centrifuge, aliquot, label, and distribute patient specimens for microbiological analysis
  • Prepare culture media and plates; perform sample plating and streaking; assist with Gram staining and routine assays
  • Maintain accurate records through laboratory information systems and manual logs
  • Calibrate and clean instruments (e.g., centrifuges, incubators); uphold lab safety and cleanliness standards
  • Order and manage supplies; participate in quality control
  • Operate microbiology instruments and perform related technical tasks
  • Other duties may be assigned based on operational needs

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Lab Technician program; OSMT/CSMLS or equivalent certification required (or willing to obtain within 6 months)
  • Proficient in aseptic techniques, plate streaking, and sample prep
  • Hands‑on experience using laboratory information systems; strong data entry and record-keeping skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Candidate must be available for all shifts including; days, evenings, nights, and weekends
