About the role

Job description

Newbridge Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Public Speaking Instructor to lead weekly public speaking classes for our Kindergarten to Grade 5 students during the 2026–2027 school year.

This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who is passionate about helping young learners develop confidence, effective communication skills, and the ability to express their ideas clearly in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Schedule

  • Mondays: 1:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
  • Three classes each week: K-1, 2-3, and 4-5
  • Class sizes of approximately 4-8 students

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that build confidence in speaking before an audience.
  • Teach foundational communication skills, including voice projection, articulation, eye contact, body language, storytelling, and presentation techniques.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable sharing ideas, speaking respectfully, and encouraging one another.
  • Incorporate interactive activities such as storytelling, debates, speeches, presentations, readers’ theatre, and impromptu speaking exercises.
  • Adapt lessons to meet the developmental needs of different age groups.
  • Collaborate with school staff to support a positive learning environment.
  • Conference with teachers on student participation and progress as requested.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching public speaking, drama, debate, communications, or language arts to children is preferred.
  • Experience coaching speech, theatre, or debate is considered an asset.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, encouraging, and able to inspire confidence in young learners.
  • Current Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain one).

Compensation

  • $30–35 per hour , based on qualifications and experience.
