Summary: Under the direction of the Sr. Superintendent, Corporate Services, the Trainer will assist in the planning, organizing, coordinating and implementation of the Fort McKay Group of Companies' training program for both production and maintenance. In addition, the incumbent shall provide the training and competency assessments to the workforce on all types of powered mobile equipment, material handling equipment and light duty vehicles utilized by various departments. They have responsibility for promoting company safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, company policy, internal controls, and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of Fort McKay Group of Companies LP.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.
Key Focus:
- Provide fair, accurate and thorough assessments of employee’s skills and abilities.
- Work closely with the Operations, Maintenance and Health & Safety team to identify employee training needs.
- Evaluate new and rehired employees for competency and determine what training is necessary.
- Submit and upload paperwork in a timely manner.
- Ensure employee training records are accurate, thorough, and up to date.
- Ensure document tracking and control practices are in place.
- Ensure documents are signed off by appropriate approval authorities.
- Maintain documents and update as required.
- Provide employees with comprehensive training in the safe use and movement of equipment/vehicles, highlighting the company’s safe operating procedures.
- Keep up skills and knowledge of safe inspection and operation of the various powered mobile equipment, material handling equipment and light vehicles utilized by both divisions.
- Ensure routine audits are conducted and corrective measures put in place.
- Perform safe work observations.
- Present findings and provide recommendations and solutions following incidents.
- Instruct courses such as: Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, Confined space, and others.
- External courses may include chainsaw, pipe fusion, overhead crane, rigging and airbrakes.
- Assist in incident investigations as required.
- Promote a positive employer/employee relationship with all employees.
- Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract. A Journeyman trade ticket is an asset.
- Valid CSTS & OSSA/ CSO/ BSO training is required.
- Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- At least 3 years of is required, with a strong understanding/proficiency
- of Heavy Equipment in a Mining environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Practical understanding of and well-developed skills in operations;
- Be familiar with all aspects of safe inspection and operation for the powered mobile equipment, material handling equipment and light duty vehicles for which they provide training and evaluation;
- Ability to create and administer policies and procedures;
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills;
- Be alert to external factors that can impact compliance and be responsive to ensure prompt action to address;
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement in a team operating framework;
- Consistently demonstrate your ability to deliver performance success;
- Must be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- Must be decisive and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with an unexpected occurrence or delay;
- Ability to minimize and resolve conflicts;
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment;
- Analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals;
- Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.

This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB.
**Shift schedule:**Monday – Friday, 8-Hour shifts.
**NOTE:**Flight and Camp accommodation NOT available.
