1 ‑ Full Time ‑ Social Worker BSW

Social Work ‑ Adult Psychiatry

The Social Worker, Adult Mental Health Program has a direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Adult Mental

Health Program, with a matrix reporting relationship for social work practice to the Director, Health Professions and

Collaborative Practice.

As part of an interprofessional team, the Social Worker will provide social work services to the inpatient program. The

Social Worker will be a team player with a proven ability to work in a fast paced, high volume setting, as well as a

capacity to adapt to a multitude of competing demands and shifting priorities. The Social Worker will participate in

outcome measurement and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

* Bachelor Social Work (BSW)

* Unencumbered registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

* Demonstrated knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as set out by the Ontario College of

Social Workers and Social Service Workers

* Understanding of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, PHIPA and other legislation as

appropriate

* Experience with supporting and advocating for adults/families with mental illness and addictions issues

* Experience providing intake interviews and assessments

* Experience in providing brief counselling

* Experience consulting and collaborating with members of an interprofessional team

* Sound knowledge of acute psychiatry and crisis intervention

* Understanding of the treatment options for mood/anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, psychosis and addictions

* Familiarity with cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy and dialectical

behavioural therapy

* Familiarity with Indigenous Peoples' traditional healing practices

* Excellent working knowledge of mental health community resources e.g. housing, addiction services, etc.

* Understanding of the role of primary care within the continuum of health care

* Understanding of chronic disease self management and psychosocial rehabilitation

Skills/Abilities:

* Triage, intake and assessment skills

* ASIST (applied suicide intervention skill training) preferred

* Non Violent Crisis Intervention certification preferred

* Problem solving and decision making skills

* Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills

* Social service and health care system navigation skills

* Strong oral and written communication skills

* Strong computer skills required as working in an electronic medical record environment

* Knowledge of social work values and ethics, theory and established practices of clinical social work

* Understanding of mental illness and addiction (symptoms, presentation and treatment)

* Knowledge of psychotherapy and psychiatry terminology

Assets:

* Minimum 3 years experience in a mental health care environment preferred

* Experience with email, electronic calendars and electronic documentation preferred

Salary Range: $39.160 to 50.770
