We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Mine Planning Consultant to join our team and help mining operations improve planning performance through practical coaching, structured operating systems, and best-practice planning methodologies.
As a Mine Planning Consultant, you will
Partner with planning, dispatch, and operations teams to improve short and medium-range mine planning performance. Lead planning improvement initiatives that strengthen schedule compliance, sequencing, and plan versus actual performance. Coach and mentor mine planners and technical services teams to build sustainable planning capability. Deliver practical training that helps site teams adopt better planning processes and operational routines. Contribute to consulting engagements that improve operational performance and deliver measurable outcomes for mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead short-range planning improvement initiatives across shift, daily, weekly, and four-week planning horizons. Assess existing planning processes and redesign planning workflows, cadences, and role accountabilities using Outliers methodologies. Analyze planning performance through schedule compliance, sequencing logic, and plan versus actual variance to identify improvement opportunities. Coach and develop client mine planners and technical services teams on planning best practices and continuous improvement. Deliver classroom and field-based training to planners, supervisors, and dispatch/control room personnel. Collaborate with multidisciplinary Outliers consulting teams to deliver integrated operational improvement engagements. Support proposal development and scope definition for mine planning consulting opportunities. Travel to client operations as required to support project delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline. 10+ years of mining industry experience, with the majority focused on open pit operations. Strong experience in short and medium-range mine planning. Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, or leading mine planners or technical teams. Working knowledge of planning best practices, including sequencing logic, schedule compliance, plan versus actual reconciliation, and planning KPIs. Practical operational experience within open pit mining, including operations, production supervision, or technical services. Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with client teams. Willingness and ability to travel to remote and fly-in/fly-out mine sites.
Preferred
Experience with Fleet Management Systems such as Modular, Wenco, or similar platforms. Exposure to Short Interval Control (SIC), Lean Six Sigma, or other structured continuous improvement methodologies. Experience developing training materials, playbooks, or planning standards. Based in Canada, although strong candidates located in the United States will also be considered.
