Who We Are
Angrove Law is a small, virtual law firm that operates in Ontario predominately. Hilary Angrove is a mother, entrepreneur, and lawyer. She built Angrove Law as a place that does law differently. We take a collaborative approach and provide upfront, flat fee pricing for set products without retainers.
We mainly work in contract law with our main services being marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, separation agreements (uncontested), employment contracts, and providing independent legal advice to small businesses. We also do some other miscellaneous contract agreements and are always open to building a new line of business.
We work virtually and have regular meetings as a team. A key player in our meet is our CMO, who we regularly meet with, as marketing is critical to our online growth. We create helpful content on our website and are building our YouTube to demystify the law, let our future clients get to know us, our values, and feel confident in choosing our law firm.
We run all our clients through a similar process: consult call, signing a legal services agreement, client completes forms, we complete draft agreements, client meetings, revisions, and final review.
We wanted a law firm that was not only great for the clients but the lawyers that work there. As a friendly and calm atmosphere where efficiency is rewarded instead of unrealistic hours.
Who You Are
You are a Canadian lawyer with at least 1 year of experience after articling. You are resourceful and a self-starter. You care about the quality of your work, and are proud of every contract you put your legal seal on. You have a doer personality type and recognize that you have the opportunity to grow with Angrove Law (we're still growing!) and become a pivotal part in our workplace culture, values, and opportunities.
You are smart and creative. You identify how the client’s wishes fit within the boundaries of the law. You do your own research, love chatting about cases with colleagues, and find creative solutions that you can bring to the table.
You are collaborative. You enjoy being treated as an equal and are not afraid to bounce ideas off your colleagues. You strike a balance being strong in your convictions, with being open minded to learning, and seeing a different point of view.
You are resourceful and analytical, what the client wants is not always possible within the confines of the law. You are expected to review and use the precedents that we have, and also do legal research to find new solutions that you can use to create new precedents.
You have a roll up your sleeves attitude. As a small law firm you will be working on a variety of different aspects of our business. From writing legal articles on our website, taking consult calls, and even working on streamlining our processes. We do not expect you to come in as an expert in these areas, and will provide training and coaching, but we do expect you to learn and improve your own skills in a multi faceted way.
What success looks like in this role:
In month 1 you are expected to get up to speed on our client process, shadow a current lawyer, and be confident to draft agreements accurately by yourself. You should also be confident in researching and writing legal articles, based on our content outlines that will be published on our website. In month 2, for basic agreements you should be able to handle the entire client process (excluding the consult call) and be starting to hit a modified target billing. By month 3, you should be able to own the entire client process by yourself. You should be able to confidently complete any new client case, even if we do not have a precedent for the situation. You will start working towards full targets in month 3.
You are expected to learn from your mistakes, and make improvements. This is a standard that we hold ourselves to and always strive to become better.
