Clinic Assistant, Family Medicine
About the role
This is a Temporary Part Time assignment for up to approximately ten (10) months. Sinai Health is looking for a Clinic Assistant to support our Family Medicine Department. The successful incumbent will assist clinical staff with patient flow, document patient activities electronically and assist in minor clinical procedures. We are seeking to define and develop a culture and interprofessional primary health care practice model to enhance the delivery of patient-centered care within an academic environment in the Mount Sinai community.
In This Role You Will
- Escort patients through clinical space and assist with patient preparation for visits
- Register patients at check in during the Saturday walk in clinic
- Monitor patient flow to facilitate optimal practice efficiency
- Collect basic vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and body mass index and document information in patient's electronic medical record
- Perform basic tests such as visual acuity and urine dip tests and document results in patient's electronic medical record
- Assist clinical staff with minor procedures (e.g., pap tests, surgical procedures etc.).
- Prepare medical equipment and exam rooms for patient visits as per infection control procedures
- Prepare used medical equipment/instruments for sterile processing using MDRD electronic system
- Troubleshoot any related issues with the specimens such as: missing results, any discrepancies with the samples, instruments
- Continuous direct patient contact and interaction for PPE patients
- Contribute and support emergency response efforts like patients who need medical attention after fainting
- Transfer patients from wheelchair to bed and bed to wheelchair via, mechanical lift.
- Collect/prepare/drop-off specimens to designated department/laboratories
- Audit supplies and checks the expiration dates
- Ensures proper disposal of sharps including sharp container, follow PPE and bed bug protocol
- Initiate/assist with troubleshooting office equipment’s and technologies
- Order and restock supplies and equipment
- Maintain general tidiness of unit including cleaning isolation room as per Infection Control protocols
- Monitor patient flow to facilitate optimal practice efficiency
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of the patients, guest and the whole team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements Mandatory
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience
- Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma preferably with a healthcare focus such as Medical Lab Assistant / Technician
Preferred
- Previous experience working within a clinic/health environment
- Previous experience in charting patients' medical details
- Previous experience with an electronic medical record (EMR) program
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, and ability to work with databases
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated English language proficiency in verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure with multiple competing demands
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
