Co-op Researcher - Efficient Fundation Model
About the role
Huawei Canada has an immediate 8/12/16-month Co-op opening for Researcher About the team: Founded in 2012, the Noah’s Ark lab has evolved into a prominent research organization with notable achievements in academia and industry. The lab’s mission focuses on advancing artificial intelligence and related fields to benefit the company and society. Driven by impactful, long-term projects, the aim is to enhance state-of-the-art research while integrating innovations into the company's products and services, including LLMs, RL, NLP, computer vision, AI theory, and Autonomous driving.
Responsibilities:
- Support development of efficient LLM methods, such as quantization, pruning, distillation, or speculative decoding.
- Run experiments to evaluate model compression and acceleration techniques.
- Implement and test ideas in Python (PyTorch preferred).
- Collaborate with team members to debug, analyze results, and share findings.
Job requirements
About the ideal candidate:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with machine learning or deep learning basics (coursework or projects).
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Willingness to learn new tools, frameworks, and concepts quickly.
- Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Previous coursework or projects related to neural networks or natural language processing.
- Interest in model optimization, GPU computing, or large-scale AI systems.
- Experience with research projects in efficient ML/LLM, demonstrated through publications, open-source contributions, or projects.
