Responsibilities
As a Director - Design and Construction with Hines, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Project Management & Oversight
- Lead and coordinate development projects from concept through construction.
- Manage consultants, contractors, and municipal stakeholders to ensure timely approvals and execution.
- Oversee site servicing, grading, stormwater management, and roadworks.
Planning & Subdivision Expertise
- Prepare and review engineering submissions for Plans of Subdivision.
- Liaise with municipal staff, agencies, and utility providers to secure approvals.
- Interpret zoning bylaws, official plans, and development standards.
Construction Management
- Support or lead construction activities including site preparation, servicing, and vertical build.
- Monitor budgets, schedules, and quality control across multiple projects.
- Coordinate with internal teams (finance, legal, sales) to align development goals.
Generalist Development Functions
- Assist in land acquisition due diligence and feasibility analysis.
- Contribute to design development, value engineering, and cost estimating.
- Engage with external stakeholders including community groups and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil preferred); P. Eng designation preferred.
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a strong foundation in land development and subdivision work in Ontario or demonstrated success as a Civil Engineer or Construction Manager overseeing complex site servicing, grading, and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Deep working knowledge of municipal processes, engineering standards, and development approvals in the GTA.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors through design, approvals, and construction phases.
- Strong planning and subdivision expertise, including preparation and review of engineering submissions and coordination with municipal and utility stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Desire and aptitude to grow into a broader development management role, with versatility across engineering, construction, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with developers, municipalities, and engineering consultants.
- Familiarity with construction practices, site logistics, and contractor coordination.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and problem-solving mindset.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to evolving project needs.
