About the role

Why Join Us?
Ackard has been a trusted name in Edmonton for over 40 years, known for quality craftsmanship and homes that truly stand out. We’re a close-knit team that takes pride in our work, supports each other, and genuinely enjoys what we do. Every project is a chance to be creative, solve problems, and see the real impact of your skills. Our culture is built on honesty, integrity, respect, passion, and continuous growth—values we live every day, not just post on a wall. If you’re looking for a place where you can do great work, feel at home, and have some fun along the way, Ackard is the place to be.

What You'll Do

Working closely with the Sales and Design team and reporting to the Project Concept Manager, the Architectural Technologist is responsible for developing accurate, compliant, and build-ready drawings that move residential renovation and infill projects from concept through to construction. Using concept sketches, scopes of work, and site information, this role translates design intent into efficient, structurally sound plans that meet Alberta Building Code and municipal requirements.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are well-documented, permit-ready, and clearly communicated to both internal teams and field crews.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Documentation

  • Conduct site measurements at client homes to capture existing conditions

  • Prepare accurate as-built drawings based on site measurements

  • Develop conceptual floor plans and 3D renderings using in-house design concepts and scope notes

  • Produce permit-ready drawings to support municipal approval processes

  • Create detailed construction drawings, including dimensions, sections, and details required for field execution

  • Revise drawings as required to accommodate design changes, client feedback, and technical requirements

Coordination & Workflow

  • Work closely with Sales, Design, and Production teams to ensure design intent and constructability are aligned

  • Monitor and manage design deliverables to meet established project timelines

  • Participate in internal team meetings and attend client meetings when requested

  • Support production by providing clear, complete, and timely drawing packages

What You Bring

  • Architectural Technologist Diploma from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience as an architectural technologist or in a similar role within a residential-focused company

  • Strong working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and its application to residential construction

  • Working knowledge of City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaws

  • Experience in residential design and aesthetics

  • Proficient in Chief Architect or similar CAD-based design software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365

Who You Are

  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and precision

  • Enjoys analyzing building codes, bylaws, space planning, and technical requirements

  • Comfortable working independently for extended periods

  • Able to collaborate effectively with designers and adapt to revisions, updates, and rework

  • Strong problem-solver who enjoys finding practical, code-compliant solutions

  • Creative, curious, and open to design challenges

  • Takes pride in their work and contributes positively to a team environment

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with regular computer use; involves sitting for extended periods while working on design software, emails, and documentation

  • Occasional site visits to residential spaces for as-built site measurement

  • Occasional exposure to active construction environments during site visits (dust, noise, uneven surfaces); appropriate PPE may be required

  • Standard weekday hours with some flexibility to meet project deadlines or attend client meetings
