The Opportunity
The Senior Analyst, Accounting, reporting to the Manager, Accounting, is responsible for the oversight and accounting of revenue, property, plant & equipment (PP&E), and intangible assets. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Financial Planning & Analysis, External Reporting, Asset Management, and Accounts Receivable, and plays a key role in supporting Canopy’s financial reporting and compliance efforts.
Responsibilities
Revenue Accounting
- Determine monthly revenue recognition and perform related analysis and calculations.
- Evaluate sales agreements to determine appropriate revenue and cost treatment under US GAAP.
- Prepare revenue-related journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications.
- Generate and distribute monthly revenue reports to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain oversight of revenue accounts and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
PP&E and Intangible Assets
- Record additions, disposals, depreciation, and amortization.
- Prepare capitalization accruals for assets in progress.
- Maintain continuity schedules summarizing monthly activity.
- Evaluate expenditures for appropriate classification under US GAAP.
- Analyze lease agreements and prepare supporting documentation and disclosures.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Draft accounting memos and note disclosures for quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Support external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
- Drive process improvements within the Accounting function.
- Participate in ad hoc projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) preferred.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting principles is a definite asset.
- Experience with ERP systems; Sage X3 is an asset.
- Ability to analyze financial reports.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
