Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Facilities Equipment Room Attendant is to facilitate the daily operations of CARSA, Ian Stewart Rink, McKinnon Building, Centennial Stadium, and eight playing fields.

With an emphasis on providing excellent customer service, this position is responsible for providing a broad range of services to students, staff, faculty and the broader community who access the facilities. The position serves as a primary source of information for facility usage rules, and equipment lending/rentals and must possess broad knowledge of the recreation, athletic, community and special events taking place in the facilities.

Under general supervision of the full-time facility staff (FA1, SFAs, and Facility Coordinator), the position assists in the operation of physical education and recreational facilities ensuring that they are safe, clean and properly set up. Provides support in the general maintenance of athletic and recreation equipment. Prepares, issues, repairs and stows athletic and recreational equipment. Monitors and controls the use of facilities by authorized individuals according to bookings and facility use policy and procedures.

This casual position is limited to students under the terms of the CUPE 917 collective agreement.

Working Conditions:
This role involves both indoor and outdoor environments and requires physical work such as heavy lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varying weather conditions. Use of motorized equipment, laundry machinery, and exposure to cleaning chemicals may be required. Work may occur on evenings, weekends, or holidays. A key challenge of this role is adapting to the diverse and often unpredictable range of duties that arise on a daily basis.

Job Requirements

Experience:
Experience working in customer service or a recreation/sport setting. Familiarity with equipment handling and facility maintenance is an asset.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid (current certification)
  • WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Knowledge of sport and recreation facility and equipment needs
  • Basic computer skills and comfort with scheduling and email systems
  • Knowledge of best practices in equity, diversity and inclusion

Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic keyboarding and data entry skills for customer service transactions
  • Excellent customer service abilities during high volume and demanding environments
  • Ability to flex schedule according to operational requirements
  • Ability to multitask and think critically
  • Ability to effectively monitor and communicate to members, guests and staff
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable working with equipment and basic tools
  • Attention to detail, punctuality, and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
