Senior Engineer - Generation Stations Civil Engineering
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds A02
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00
What you'll do
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will:
- Have knowledge and experience related to the analysis of embankment dams or similar structures and soil-structure
interaction with FLAC, PLAXIS or other platforms.
- Be familiar with the various constitutive models used to replicate the mechanical behaviour of soils and will be
knowledgeable about the selection of values for input parameters.
- Conduct static and dynamic analysis, including selecting and modifying ground motions for deformation analysis.
- Have knowledge and experience related to seepage analysis of embankment dams, including experience with numerical
methods.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate the results of complex analyses and provide
recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, design memoranda and other project documentation.
- Prepare working design bases for design and analysis of embankment dams.
- Provide oversight to assigned project work to ensure accuracy and adherence to accepted engineering practice and
achievement of project objectives.
- Provide support/assistance to other disciplines and personnel, including structural, hydrotechnical, dam surveillance, plant
operation, procurement, and other stakeholders.
- Act as Owner’s Engineer representing BC Hydro’s interests and project oversight of project work completed by the
consultants by reviewing functional requirements, developing terms of reference, establishing a review process, checking,
reviewing and commissioning to demonstrate that the work meets functional and project requirements.
- Maintain and develop effective professional relationships with internal BC Hydro staff, external consultants and with other
groups in BC Hydro.
What you bring
- A bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is required. A master’s degree or higher will be considered an asset.
- You are currently registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists
BC (EGBC).
- A minimum 8 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- You have knowledge and experience in geotechnical engineering, numerical analyses of embankment dams, constitutive
models for soil and rock, soil mechanics, site investigation, in-situ and lab testing, slope stability and seepage analyses, and
geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring.
- Effective verbal and written communication and report writing skills.

- A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License In good standing.
- This position is headquartered at the Edmonds Office (Burnaby, British Columbia). However, travel (driving) to other sites
within the province, and working in the field under various terrains and weather conditions is required.
- Applicants who do not meet full qualifications or those with lesser work experience may be considered for a position at a
lower level.
