About the role

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:

BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN- PLUMBER (Permanent, on rotation)

The Municipal Public Works Department (MPW) of the KRG is responsible to maintain the organization buildings (offices, police stations, airports, employees housing units, etc.) and to provide technical assistance to the 14 Northern Villages (NVs) in matters related to operation and maintenance of their recreational buildings (arenas, swimming pools, gymnasiums and community centres).

Reporting to the Nunavik Maintenance Coordinator of the Building Maintenance Section, the Specialized Building Technician-Plumber performs preventive maintenance and service/repair operations on plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment, and controls, which are used for water, waste, oil, and hot liquids in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

DUTIES: • Complete timely inspections, tests, and accurately report equipment defects or deficiencies on a daily basis; • Perform scheduled maintenance service and repairs to plumbing and oil heating systems and fixtures; • Clean, adjust, test, and repair oil heating appliances; • Install, alter, and modify drainage waste and vent systems; • Provide input for the planned and scheduled work; • Assist with the scoping, estimating, planning, and execution of new work projects; • Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes; • Complying with safety rules; • Perform general building maintenance and repairs; • Perform any other duty requested by his/her supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: • Possess a vocational certificate as a Journeyman Plumber; • Have a valid class-5 driver’s license; • Minimum of five to eight years of relevant building-systems maintenance experience with emphasis on oil heating systems. • Knowledge of basic HVAC equipment; • Ability to read drawings and schematics; • Capacity to plan work, meet deadlines as well as make emergency operational decisions; • Ability to summarize, simplify, and transmit information about Plumbing principles; • Demonstrated good professional conduct as well as being reliable, autonomous, and possess a great sense of initiative; • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, and French • Possess excellent analysis and problem-solving skills; • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Work schedule and place of work: • 6-3 rotation schedule: 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly) or • 4-2 rotation schedule: 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly);

Place of work: Nunavik. Quebec Salary: Minimum $52,481, maximum $89,256 annually (Class 8) Other benefits: Lodging and boarding when traveling in other communities paid by the Employer, meal and incidental expenses while traveling in Nunavik Simplified Pension Plan: 6,25% employer, 4% employee. Vacation: 20 days annually. Statutory holidays: 20 days including 10 during the Christmas period

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) was established in 1978 under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to provide public services to Nunavimmiut. Its core responsibilities are outlined in the Act respecting Northern Villages and the Kativik Regional Government (Kativik Act). Additional mandates have been assigned by the region’s municipalities and the Québec government.
