The Actuarial Consultant is accountable for supporting the achievements of ACG’s short- and long-term Mission, Vision and strategic objectives. The Actuarial Consultant is accountable for designing, developing and continuously improving the actuarial function, with focus on complex projects where expert actuarial or multidisciplinary knowledge are required to recommend optimal decisions, to support achievement of ACG’s short- and long-term mission, Vision and Strategic objectives. This includes accountability for developing, implementing and maintaining a performance plan with stratum appropriate deliverables, to deliver the highest-level plan results and performance metrics. The Actuarial Consultant selects, provides operational leadership and direction to a capable team of Actuarial Analysts and Senior Actuarial Analysts and ensures their cooperation to successfully meet ACG and Pricing performance requirements.

Accountabilities:

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in cross-functional projects.
  • Function as a liaison between business units and systems or other areas of responsibility based on the projects they are assigned to
  • Identify, recommend, develop and integrate SAS and Visual Basic programs for actuarial projects and procedures, as well as undertake associated analysis.
  • Support and/or lead the development/design of new rating plans, products, processes and methodologies.
  • Coach, develop, review and delegate work to junior actuarial staff.
  • Communicate complex analyses and results to colleagues and business partners and provide recommendations.
  • Provide required services to support Pricing Managers (or Directors) and Province Managers (or Directors) with implementation of rate changes, associated rate filings, introduction of new products, and rating rule changes.
  • Ensure adherence to CAS and the CIA Standards of Practice

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Advanced product, price, risk management and insurance regulation knowledge, including professional standards of actuarial/statistical techniques
  • Solid understanding of principles of predictive analytics and experience leading the evaluation and application of predictive models to generate measurable business value
  • Advanced project management skills to independently handle multiple projects of high complexity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
