HOURS OF WORK:

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The RN, as one of the providers of health care, has a unique role in promoting health, preventing illness, and in helping clients attain and maintain the highest level of healthy living possible. The RN is responsible for providing comprehensive coordinated care to patients, who experience predictable and unpredictable outcomes and may or may not be clinically stable. The RN practices in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Practice Standards and competencies of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO).

The standards set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and CANO: Standards of Care, Roles in Oncology Nursing and Role Competencies represent minimum expectations for oncology nursing practice.

The role is based on the CANO competencies which depict the integration of knowledge, skills and judgments expected of a Specialized Oncology Nurse to provide a safe and effective practice environment for the patient and the specialized oncology nurse.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontariorequired (In Good Standing)
  • Current BCLS required
  • Completion of a foundational level Oncology course required (de Souza Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice required)
  • Certificate in Chemotherapy & Biotherapy administration from deSouzarequired
  • Completion of Chemotherapy Competency Maintenance Course every 12-18 months
  • CVAD, I.V therapyrequired
  • BScN/BNpreferred
  • One year recent oncology/palliative care experiencepreferred
  • One year recent chemotherapy administration experiencepreferred

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a member of the multidisciplinary team by communicating all relevant clinical data
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals in work
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize competing demands
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to continually upgrade and review advancements in oncology
  • Promotes quality practice through planning, and resource coordination
  • Functions as a team member with all other staff members within the clinic
  • Computer skills an asset
