About the role
On behalf of our client, Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. , we are seeking a Family Lawyer to join their compassionate + professional legal team. This role is ideal for an experienced family law practitioner who is passionate about empowering self-represented clients through limited-scope retainer work, conflict resolution + strategic legal support.
Responsibilities
- Provide limited-scope retainer legal services to clients navigating family law matters.
- Develop legal documentation + correspondence to assist clients in managing their cases effectively.
- Offer strategic guidance to self-represented individuals, helping them prepare for legal proceedings.
- Facilitate conflict resolution, negotiating or mediating settlements as needed.
- Maintain high professional standards while delivering accessible legal support.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience practicing family law.
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation + interpersonal skills.
- Prior trial experience is an asset, though this position does not involve family trial work.
- Conscientious + client-focused, with the ability to guide self-represented individuals through legal complexities.
- Must be accepted to the Nova Scotia Bar
Preferred Qualifications (Assets But Not Requirements)
- Knowledge + experience in wills + estate planning.
- Understanding of employment law.
Benefits
- $125/hour as a contract worker.
- Expectation of 15-30 hours per week of client work, with a steady caseload provided by the firm.
- Full administrative support for scheduling, invoicing + fee collection.
- No evenings or weekends required, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.
