About the role

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an immediate opening for an Application Specialist to join the Information Technology (IT) team in the Toronto office.

Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Applications, the successful candidate will be responsible for the Firm’s global software applications, related systems, and the various computing and integration environments that support those applications. This includes the configuration, integration and management of a wide range of applications across the Firm.

Due to scheduled maintenance and upgrades, some after-hours and weekend work will be required. Occasional travel may also be necessary depending on circumstances.

Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing daily management, troubleshooting and support of Firm business system applications and solutions
  • Coordinating the application updates process for all Firm business system applications
  • Ensuring assigned applications and solutions are running optimally
  • Creating accurate documentation of systems and processes
  • Serving as third-tier support for diagnostic, research and resolution of desktop computing incidents, requests and problems
  • Providing performance metrics and conducting root cause analysis
  • Providing after-hours on-call support related to application services on a rotational basis
  • Adhering to IT policies and procedures, such as time tracking
  • Preparing requirements, design and program specifications, and project schedules in alignment with the IT department’s project management standards

Qualifications

Education/Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technologies or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant applications/solutions work experience
  • Industry standard certification is preferred

Skills/Abilities :

  • Strong knowledge of applications/solutions lifecycle and broad application understanding for end-user computing devices
  • Strong knowledge of Intapp products, including Time, Walls, Boomi and Integrate appliance
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 application suite, including Teams, OneDrive, Office Pro Plus and others
  • Strong knowledge of general legal applications such as Interaction, Introhive and Vuture
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, PowerShell scripting and Windows server technologies
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Active Directory infrastructure and related technologies
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key software and service providers
  • Ability to think creatively about complex IT problems and resolve them with new approaches
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise independent thought and judgment
