About the role
Summary of Duties
Responsible for the direct patient care to patients requiring blood products, IVIG and iron infusions and therapeutic phlebotomies. The main functions of the RN include, but are not limited to patient assessment intervention, education and patient advocacy in accordance with standards of the College of Nurses organization and Person Centred Care concept and principles and the Mission and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current Ontario Registration
- Current BCLS certificate required
- BScN Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
- Minimum two (2) years nursing experience required
- Critical Care experience preferred
- Oncology experience preferred
- Venipuncture and IV Certification essential
- Completed Advanced Nursing Competency in Transfusion
- Knowledge of Positive Patient Identification essential
- Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organizational skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution
- Proven ability to handle stressful environment in a positive manner
- Proven ability to function independently and as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to adapt to a multi-focused, fast-changing and stressful environment
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development within the past two (2) years
- Ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care
