About Us

Mustangs Sports is part of Sports & Recreation and the larger division of Student Experience at Western. Sport builds on a rich athletic tradition of excellence and a commitment to providing a supportive high-performance environment for student-athletes.

The Mustangs Sports Program is responsible for the development, implementation, assessment and management of varsity sport, team and student athlete specific programs for 46 Mustangs teams. Additionally, Mustangs Sports provides student-athlete supports, resources and leadership; coaching support, education and development; alumni engagement and partnership development.

Responsibilities

Mustangs Sports oversees and is accountable for the varsity and sport club sport programs, helping the University continue to meet the evolving needs of the student athlete experience. The Head Coach, under the direction of Sports & Recreation leadership, is responsible for strengthening programming; developing strategies and initiatives to provide a supportive high-performance environment for student athletes and focus on safe sport and the specific needs of student athletes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Post Secondary diploma or Degree would be an asset
  • Experience coaching and leading sport programs in a high standard of academic and sport performance environment
  • CPR Certification & First Aid Training is an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated sport specific knowledge and education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others particularly in a leadership capacity
  • Ability to foster teamwork and encourage team members to learn from each other
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to be a productive team player who enjoys contributing to team goals
  • Familiarity with Campus Recreation’s programs, services, and facilities preferred
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the events with the consistent ability to work assigned shifts is paramount

Background Checks

Please note, successful applicants will be required to produce current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from a police service prior to commencing employment.

Coaches will be required to complete SafeSport, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and Gender-Based Violence Prevention (GBVP) training modules on an annual basis. Completion of all assigned modules are mandatory and reflects our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment for all participants.
