Senior Manager, Health and Safety - [Contract 12 months]

Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, the Senior Manager, H&S is accountable for anticipating, evaluating and monitoring health and safety risks. Develops and implements plant-level strategies to address and/or control risks in the workplace/plan to develop “best in class” for Safety Standards and training.
This role is offered on a 12-month contract basis.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the implementation of plant health and safety strategy, tools, programs and initiatives to drive consistency and sustainability. This includes communication, planning, training, development, implementation and follow-up.
- Provide guidance, coaching and technical expertise at the site level to direct reports and site management to ensure management engagement and accountability in H&S and facilitate the execution of H&S initiatives. These involves leveraging resources, recognizing issues/potentials, assisting with evaluation and identification of controls, execution / follow up / problem solving, and a sense of urgency, as required.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and legislated requirements, including development of training plans.
- Provide a highly visible presence in all departments and leadership to team.
- Constantly promote, monitor and evaluate safety programs and practices to make recommendations.
- Provide reports and statistical information to management.
- Analyze safety data, risks, conduct research and audits that assists in developing ‘best in class’ annual safety plans and programs.
- Develop and implement strategies that create ‘safety engagement’ amongst employees and supervisors.
- Participate in Safety Committees, Plant Audits and safety training.
- Act as point of contact for Ministry of Labour, and other regulatory agencies.
- Function as the central point of contact for serious incident reporting and investigation.
- Liaise with union representatives, local regulators and other stakeholders to build sustainable, positive relationships and company credibility;
Requirements
- 5 years’ experience in a progressively senior H&S role.
- CRSP designation or in process of obtaining designation
- Diploma or Degree in a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Knowledge of applicable Provincial safety legislation/ regulations and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Knowledge of Claims Management and applicable Workers’ Compensation Board policies and procedures.
- Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Willingness to travel, as required
