Job Description Are you ready to engineer real change in one of Canada’s most advanced shipyards?

Join the team driving smarter shipbuilding! As an Industrial Engineering Co-op Student, you'll help design and improve tools, workstations, and processes that boost quality and efficiency in ship construction and repair. You’ll gain hands-on experience through training, coaching, and real-world projects—applying scientific methods to solve problems, test solutions, and implement lasting improvements. With support from experienced mentors, you’ll contribute to impactful projects and learn to influence change using proven methodologies like Six Sigma and the Irving Way of Shipbuilding.

Responsibilities

  • Own your scope: Dive into impactful work like developing performance standards, analyzing capacity and equipment effectiveness, optimizing material flow, and benchmarking industry best practices. You might even get hands-on with R&D and project planning!
  • Document the future: Help craft clear, effective processes and procedures that stabilize and control shipbuilding operations—from design to repair to construction.
  • Champion continuous improvement: Spot inefficiencies, propose smart solutions, and help drive meaningful change within the Industrial Engineering team.
  • Think ahead: Assist in identifying potential risks and support the development of mitigation strategies to keep projects on track and operations running smoothly.
  • Solve creatively: Contribute to improvement and standardization projects, using technical problem-solving and stakeholder collaboration to make a real impact—with guidance when needed.
  • Lead change with confidence: Apply proven change management principles to engage stakeholders and embed improvements that stick.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) 4-year degree program or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years' experience.
  • Analytical problem solving and data analysis.
  • Verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to engage employees at most levels of the organization.
  • Cross-functional problem solving from technical & business perspective.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Support facilitation of workshops and business updates.
