DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Manager and the Charge Respiratory therapist or Respiratory Therapist, the Respiratory Therapy Support Assistant will provide support on the units to ensure respiratory equipment is stocked, equipment is cleaned and provide support to the respiratory therapy team. This position is a support position to our front line respiratory team to ensure they are focused on core care duties during COVID19 patient increases.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Assists with the provision of respiratory equipment under the direction of the RT.

Assists with patient repositioning and transfers under the direction of the RT.
-
Process blood gas samples with results going to RT.
-
Transporting supplies and equipment within and in between units.
-
Participating and contributing in all aspects of infection control measures and/or programs.
-
Dealing courteously with patients, patients’ family, visitors and team members in a positive manner, and assisting with communication technologies to connect patient with family and friends.

Supports a clean and tidy environment by assisting in light tidying tasks as required.

Other duties as assigned.

The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act .

Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with the KHSC Commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Secondary School Graduation Diploma (Grade 12)
-
Currently enrolled in Respiratory therapy program or equivalent line of study (having completed at least the first year of study).
-
Minimum one-year work experience in related field preferred.
-
Positive interpersonal skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions accurately.
-
Proven good attendance record.
-
Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload.
-
Maintains confidentiality.
-
Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
-
Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
