As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Controller who can combine strong accounting leadership with deep ERP and systems understanding.

Role Overview

The Controller is the owner of accounting integrity, close, and accounting compliance for a SaaS and professional services company. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, proper revenue and prepaid cost accounting, strong internal controls, and effective partnership with systems, reporting, and delivery teams. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who is comfortable operating in the details, understands Business Central deeply, and can act as a trusted internal advisor across Finance, Systems, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Close

  • Oversee accounting for a multi-national legal entity structure, including separate books for our US, Canada, and India entities
  • Ensure accurate intercompany accounting, eliminations, and reconciliations across entities
  • Coordinate the monthly consolidation process, rolling up U.S., Canada, and India results into consolidated U.S. financial reporting
  • Ensure consistent accounting policies and close standards are applied across all entities
  • Partner with the CFO and external advisors on cross-border accounting considerations, including currency, statutory requirements, and intercompany arrangements
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and ensure timely, accurate issuance of departmental financial statements
  • Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, and ensure quality control over all financial transactions and reporting.
  • Coordinate and support the preparation of Ops Targets, company budgets, and financial forecasts
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, including the preparation and review of supporting schedules, and review results with the CFO.
  • Build strong working relationships across Finance, Systems, Delivery, and Operations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO on accounting, risk, and scalability

SaaS Revenue, Deferrals & Prepaids (Core Focus)

  • Oversee accounting for annual and multi-period SaaS contracts
  • Manage deferred revenue arising from upfront customer license payments
  • Manage prepaid expenses, particularly vendor licenses paid upfront (e.g., Microsoft Business Central)
  • Ensure proper revenue and cost recognition in accordance with accounting standards
  • Partner with Sales, Delivery, and Operations to ensure contract terms are accurately reflected in accounting
  • Ensure accurate dimensional posting of revenue, costs, and expenses, including by department, group, team, resource, project, and client.

Vendors & Accounts Payable

  • Oversee vendor setup, accounts payable processes, and approval workflows
  • Ensure appropriate controls exist for vendor creation, invoice processing, and payment approvals
  • Review A/P aging and support timely vendor payments while maintaining cash controls
  • Partner with Finance Operations and IT to ensure ERP workflows and permissions support proper segregation of duties
  • Resolve escalated vendor issues and payment inquiries as needed

Billing & Accounts Receivable

  • Oversee billing and accounts receivable processes
  • Ensure billing aligns with contract terms, SaaS licensing arrangements, and service delivery
  • Review A/R aging, credit balances, and collection trends
  • Support resolution of escalated customer billing and payment issues
  • Ensure proper application of customer payments and credits

Cash & Banking

  • Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and treasury-related processes
  • Review and approve bank reconciliations and cash-related journal entries
  • Monitor cash balances, liquidity, and short-term cash needs in partnership with the CFO
  • Ensure appropriate controls exist over cash receipts, disbursements, and bank access
  • Support setup and maintenance of bank accounts, signatories, and user permissions
  • Partner with Finance Operations and IT to ensure secure banking integrations and access controls
  • Provide cash visibility and reporting to support management decision-making

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll accounting and controls in partnership with HR
  • Review payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Ensure payroll processes align with approved compensation and benefit programs
  • Support compliance with payroll-related reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain appropriate separation between payroll processing and payroll accounting

Compliance, Tax & Audit

  • Coordinate regulatory and statutory financial reporting
  • Oversee provincial and state tax compliance filings including sales tax
  • Manage and support the annual financial reviews and audits
  • Research and apply technical accounting guidance as needed
  • Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and reporting requirements

Internal Controls, Risk & Insurance

  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures
  • Strengthen internal controls, particularly around cash, A/R, A/P, payroll, deferred revenue, and prepaids
  • Ensure confidentiality and protection of PII and other sensitive information
  • Manage corporate insurance policies and ensure appropriate coverage

ERP, Systems & Process Ownership

  • Partner with Finance, Ops, IT, and Delivery teams on system configuration and enhancements
  • Contribute to ERP customization initiatives by:
    • Writing and reviewing functional requirements and user stories
    • Validating accounting workflows and controls
    • Participating in testing and acceptance Ensure accounting requirements are accurately reflected in system design and processes

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation
  • Hands-on experience owning month-end and year-end close
  • Experience in a technology, SaaS, or ERP-centric environment
  • Strong understanding of deferred revenue and prepaid expense accounting
  • Advanced ERP user skills with experience owning or administering accounting workflows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NAV, and/or inecta Food

  • Prior involvement in ERP implementations or internal ERP rollouts

  • Experience writing functional requirements or user stories for ERP customization

  • Comfort partnering with consulting, delivery, or product teams

  • CPA or equivalent designation

Compensation
United States (Fully Remote)

Base Salary

  • $135,000 - $150,000 USD
  • Strong candidates: $140K - $145K

Bonus

  • 5 - 10% annual performance bonus tied closely with quality and audit readiness

Canada (Fully Remote)

Base Salary

  • $130,000 - $155,000 CAD
  • Strong candidates: $140K - $150K CAD
