Alarm Technician
About the role
Add-On Sound & Security Systems is looking for a dependable, technically capable person to join our team. The successful applicant will begin with a probationary training period, with the intention of developing into a long-term, full-time technician role based on performance, ability and business requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
Installing, programming, servicing and troubleshooting alarm systems Installing and programming surveillance-camera systems Working with DSC, Alarm.com, Hikvision, UniFi and other security technologies Installing low-voltage cabling, sensors, keypads, smoke detectors and related equipment Performing clean, professional work in customers’ homes and businesses Explaining completed systems to customers Working independently and alongside other technicians Completing accurate job records and communicating clearly with customers and coworkers Our work takes us into a wide variety of environments—from fish-processing plants and industrial facilities to offices, construction sites and high-end homes. Applicants must be prepared to adapt to different working conditions, locations and customer expectations.
Required Qualifications
Able to communicate effectively in English or French Bilingualism in English and French is a strong asset Valid driver’s licence Satisfactory driver’s abstract Able to meet the requirements of the company’s vehicle insurer Bondable Able to successfully complete the criminal-record and background checks required for provincial security licensing Able to accurately distinguish wire and component colours Comfortable working from ladders and at heights Comfortable working from scissor lifts, boom lifts and similar equipment Able to safely lift, carry and position tools, ladders, cable and equipment Able to work on uneven terrain and in industrial, outdoor, dusty, wet, cold, hot or otherwise challenging environments Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, computers and mobile applications Reliable, punctual and professional Strong troubleshooting, communication and customer-service skills Preferred Experience Previous experience installing, servicing or programming alarm or surveillance-camera systems will receive strong preference.
Experience with any of the following would also be considered an asset
DSC alarm systems Alarm.com Hikvision cameras and recorders UniFi networking or Protect Access-control systems Structured cabling and low-voltage wiring IP networking Aerial lifts or fall-protection equipment Training may be provided to the right applicant, but this is a technical field position. Applicants must be mechanically inclined, willing to learn and able to work safely without constant supervision.
Compensation
Wages will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s demonstrated experience, technical ability and qualifications.
