This position is located in Hay River, NT and requires the successful candidate to reside there -- it is NOT a rotational/fly-in position The Crew Leader, PLT Participates as a member of the Transmission & Distribution Group and performs Journeyperson level work in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems, including substations underground and streetlight systems.
This position has the responsibilities of a Crew Leader, in addition to the responsibilities of the Journeyperson Powerline Technician.
It shall be the duty of a Crew Leader, under the general direction of their Manager, to supervise the work of the employees and contractors under their charge in such a manner that work shall be carried out safely, efficiently, and expeditiously. The duties and responsibilities of a Crew Leader include such activities as
- ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the NTPC Health & Safety Management System and the NTPC Environmental Management System,
- liaising with appropriate internal and external parties as required,
- planning, coordinating, and assigning work with consideration of workloads and priorities,
- instructing, directing, and supervising workers in the performance of their duties,
- coaching and mentoring workers and providing training where required,
- ensuring all required documentation and records are properly completed, distributed, and filed,
- monitoring quality control,
- providing feedback to crew members on their performance (excludes hiring, firing and discipline of crew members), and
- providing input to the manager regarding the performance of crew.
- Restores transmission and distribution systems when there is a power disturbance, failure, or storm damage by locating the source of the problem, replacing and /or repairing defective power lines and accessories.
- Completes pole and conductor replacements on distribution Transmission systems throughout the NWT Power Corporation. (120v to llSKV)
- Works with and assists other trades and contractors and provides guidance and training to apprentice power linepersons, casuals and/or helpers as required.
- Provide necessary info to Distribution Technician to assist in accurate info for estimating customer requests for type 6 & 7 jobs.
- Completion of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Project Safety Plans (PSP} for complex jobs.
- Identify major work projects that can be issued to Manager & Engineering for future Capital Projects.
- Other duties as listed in the job description.
- Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician, with an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson PLT preferred, AND a minimum of four years of directly related experience in the installation and maintenance of power distribution line systems required, WITH at least one (1) year experience in leading & planning crew projects, as well as performing worksite visits on crew. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Class 3 drivers license with air brake endorsement.
- Knowledge & the ability to assist in the use of specialized equipment and be familiar with test procedures on power transformers, breakers, metering tanks, high voltage cables and switches, voltage regulators (i.e. ratio tests, capacitance /dissipation factor testing, DC HYPOT testing).
- Ability to read and work off blueprints, as well as interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books.
- Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Satisfactory criminal record check required.
Salary for this position ranges from $57.85/hr - $70.28/hr, in addition to a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. The Corporation’s systems serve a population of approximately 43,000 in an area of 1.3 million square kilometers. Many of the communities NTPC serves are only accessible by air, barge or winter road.
