Candidate selection, interviews and hiring will take place continuously - this means while there is a closing date listed, hiring

Please note this position is shift work, and the successful candidate will be working shifts of 14 days in a row on site

followed by 7 days off in a row.

Based out of Fort St. John, British Columbia, BC Hydro Generation Engineering’s Site C Project (The Project) has an

opening for students studying Mechanical or Electrical Engineering who would be interested in contributing their knowledge

and developing their abilities within the Site C Project's Plant Maintenance Engineering (PME) Team. The PME team plays

a central role in the transition from construction to operations, supporting the development of maintenance programs,

deficiency management, and operational readiness of one of the largest hydroelectric projects.

BC Hydro is mindful that students may have limited experience related to the upcoming construction works but BC Hydro is

passionate about the learning opportunity the Site C Project represents to its PME Team members. Resources are in place

to surround developing members with experienced engineering leadership to promote individual development and act as a

springboard for career development.

The successful candidate will play an integral part in the PME team's mission to bridge the gap between construction and

long-term operations, working alongside experienced engineers to develop the maintenance framework for BC Hydro's

newest generating station.

  • Develop a strong understanding of each contract’s scope/specifications/Issued for Construction Drawings/Inspection and

Test Plans and contractor prepared drawings/submittals,

  • Assist with tracking, reviewing, and closing deficiencies, including field verification of deficiency scope, monitoring

rectification activities performed by trades or contractors, and preparation of closure evidence.

  • Participate in the development of facility documentation such as maintenance instructions.

  • Support the implementation of the interim preventive maintenance program in SAP, develop an understanding of

construction methods/sequencing to assist with proactively anticipating and identifying contractor interfaces and/or related

construction risks;

  • Assist with site visits for Project stakeholders;

  • Assist with the development and delivery of presentations to Project stakeholders;

At the end of the co-op term, the students will have excellent first-hand knowledge of the multi-disciplinary, fast paced, large

hydropower construction.

What you bring

  • To qualify for a student Co-op opportunity, students must be enrolled in academic studies at a post-secondary institution in

Canada and must be returning to school after completion of their work term with BC Hydro.

  • Completed a minimum of 2nd year of electrical or mechanical engineering studies at an accredited university.

  • The candidate should be excited and interested in gaining hands-on field experience in the construction of a BC Hydro

generation facility.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, proficiency in Excel, and ability to work both independently and

as a member of a team.

  • This position is based out of Fort St. John, BC.

  • Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and it is the student’s responsibility to relocate

themselves if necessary.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.

What we offer

  • As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required. This may include: reference

checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and

alcohol test.

  • All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity to extend, to eight

months.

  • These positions are located in Fort St. John, BC. Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and

it is the student’s responsibility to relocate themselves if necessary. Students may be eligible for remote work location or

living out allowances. Shifts are 14 days on, 7 off.

Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be

required as a pre-condition to employment.

Flexible work model role definitions:

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work

they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements.

Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person

time.

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
