Hours: Must be available to work flexible hours, including days and weekends, according to the home’s needs (days, evenings, weekends) and direction of Resident Programs Manager
Salary: As per current SEIU collective Agreement
Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Casual Activity Aide at our 192-bed long term care home. Reporting to the resident Program Supervisor, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a post-secondary diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university in recreation, leisure or activation studies or therapeutic recreation**, OR** a degree or diploma in Social Service Worker in Gerontology; Music Therapy; or Gerontology that includes at least 3 courses in recreation and leisure or therapeutic recreation
- Experience providing recreation program planning and implementation with seniors with physical and cognitive impairment is considered an asset.
- An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly
- Demonstration of oral and written communication skills
- Ability to problem solve
- Demonstration of planning and creative abilities
- Membership in Recreation Professionals of Ontario or Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is preferred
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group recreation programs based on assessed needs of residents and as assigned by supervisor.
- Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor behaviors and conditions of residents during programs and report and significant changes as appropriate.
- Participate in development and revision and revision of programs and volunteer department under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
