Position Description

Temporary assignment for approximately 6 months

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who adheres to and models the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario; the SJHH mission, vision and values, policies and procedures; and applicable specialty standards. The RN provides patient/client-centred and evidence informed care to promote health and assess the need for the provision of care and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal patient/client function. The RN collaborates with the inter-professional team and assumes a leadership role in the delivering a full range of care and treatment to patient/clients including those with complex needs, high acuity and less predictable outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical nursing experience preferred
  • Previous experience, knowledge and interest in Critical Care including patient/family education is an asset
  • Current BCLS/HCP certification required and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred
  • Critical Care certificate and Cardiology certificate preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors and their families
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
  • Must have demonstrated an interest in ongoing education and a commitment to continuous learning
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, remain flexible, adapt to crisis situations and a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in an inter-professional environment
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the Nursing processes effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Willingness and ability to work the shifts as required in meeting the needs of the unit
  • A good attendance and work record demonstrating reliability and dependability are essential
  • A resume regarding further education, special courses and experience should accompany the application
  • Must be available to attend all components of unit and hospital orientation as required and scheduled
