Oil sands development is an important component of CNOOC International’s global portfolio. In Canada, CNOOC Petroleum North America has interest in more than 300,000 acres in the Athabasca region – one of the largest deposits of Canadian oil reserves, where we use technologically advanced production processes such as Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). Our Long Lake facility, located in northern Alberta just south of Fort McMurray, began producing in 2008 and is a SAGD-only operation for the interim, with production capacity of around 72,000 barrels of bitumen a day.
This is a 12-month contractor role based in Fort McMurray**, Alberta.** The successful candidates will be onboarded through a third-party contracting agency.
Your Role with Our Team
- Communicate and co-ordinate as required with key stakeholders such as Project Manager, Surface Land, CCRA, Resource Development Asset Teams, Oil Sands E&C Services, Supply Chain Management, Legal, Oil Sands Site Wise Services, Geology, Production, Abandonment & Reclamations, and other Drilling personnel within the group to effectively plan and execute the various surface development projects.
- Ensure well site locations are constructed to published specifications and standards.
- Manage construction schedules to ensure leases are rig ready to avoid any delays for rig mobilization.
- Ensure day to day constructions operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, environmentally, and cost-effective manner.
- Recruit competent and qualified contract personnel for lease construction supervision. These personnel must meet minimum Company requirements in knowledge and understanding with respect to the environment, safety, and heavy equipment capabilities, company policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory requirements pertaining to the lease construction activities.
- IRP 7 assessments must be completed for each supervisor on an annual basis to satisfy regulatory requirements and provide each individual with some performance feedback.
- Monitor and evaluate field personnel, contractor’s equipment, and services with respect to efficiency and cost.
- Actively manage lease construction contracts to ensure fair value is being received for equipment and services recognizing market conditions and overall drilling activity level.
- Assume the SAP Cost Manager role for lease construction projects as delegated by the Surface Development Project Manager, ensuring they are accurate and up to date, it is imperative to handle critical daily tasks outlined below.
- Actively participate in monitoring vendor performance including evaluating vendor’s performance at least on a quarterly basis and meet with vendor’s senior representatives to discuss operational concerns, past performance, and future drilling activity as it relates to their services and co-ordination of vendor bids with Supply Management group.

- H2S training (preferred)
