About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Finance, the Senior Analyst, Projects Finance will support the accounting, financial reporting, and short- and long-term financial planning functions for the Company’s significant projects during restart or construction phases. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office.

This role plays a key part in executing and preparing the end-to-end accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning processes for these projects. The incumbent will assist in preparing the annual budget, quarterly forecasts and long-term value models for these specific assets and will contribute financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by the Senior Manager and the broader corporate finance team.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Assist in monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, monthly accruals, and G/L account reconciliations, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Operations Finance to ensure the accuracy and completeness of project results that feed the project status reports coordinated by the Projects team.
  • Participate in the design, documentation, and execution of SOX-404 controls at the project level, working closely with the corporate finance and Projects teams to ensure compliance and control effectiveness.

Forecasting and Budgeting

  • Work with the Company’s project teams, including planning function, construction team, engineering team and other departments as necessary, providing assistance on the preparation of their quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term (life-of-mine) plans.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Operations Finance to maintain existing communication channels with site finance teams, serve as the primary point of contact for any questions on forecasting or budgeting for the major projects.
  • Follow a detailed plan and timeline for the preparation of the quarterly forecast update and iterative consolidated budget exercise and help enforce accountability and timelines across the project and finance teams.
  • Prepare documentation of existing and new processes and procedures and develop recommendations for FP&A process improvement and adoption of best practices.

Business Analysis

  • Collaborate with project’s planning cost controller function to prepare necessary historical and forward-looking financial data that feeds regular project status reports.
  • Assist in analyzing financial results for a given period or periods to provide analysis and recommendations to the project team, specifically, on the status of completion of certain purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Operations Finance to enhance the current state of business analysis in terms of quality of data, automation of reporting, visualization and interpretation of data and translation of data into useful information to be used for decision making by the projects team.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Undergraduate university degree in an appropriate area of expertise, with preference for accounting, business, or equivalent technical degree
  • CPA preferred / strong asset
  • At least 3-5 years of related work experience or equivalent, including but not limited to:
    • Experience in mining industry would be considered an asset.
    • Experience working with operating mine sites or construction projects would be considered an asset.
    • Detailed financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting and modeling experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently via strong problem-solving skills and a mindset for continuous process improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Takes ownership and initiative by proactively managing assigned tasks, anticipating needs, and driving work to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop constructive relationships in order to work with other departments, including technical departments like technical services or major projects, to ensure smooth and timely collection of information required.
  • Strong analytical capabilities (Excel) and attention to detail and some experience in building and managing large data models.
  • Strong communication skills in presentation development, oral communication and other documentation.
  • Expert in PowerPoint and other visualization tools like PowerBI or Think-Cell would be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with SAP and Oracle/Hyperion or other leading planning solutions is an asset.
