You may come into contact with community members in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. There will be other staff nearby to assist as required.

The starting range for this position is $27.58 to $30.13 per hour. This is a permanent, part-time (22.5 hours per week) position .

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of H&S programs in alignment with UGM’s Health & Safety Policy, the Act and Regulation, and COR requirements.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to managers on interpretation of regulations, application of safety procedures and standards of practice, appropriate intervention, and/or preventative measures.
  • Ensure the completion of hazard identifications and risk assessments (i.e. Violence, First Aid, etc.).
  • Deliver training to employees on topics surrounding safety, health and wellness.
  • Develop and maintain H&S reports to show stake holders impacts of safety programs, highest risk areas, and most urgent areas of need.
  • Ensure safety communication on different internal media is present and up to date.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate all incidence, injuries, near misses, etc. to ensure all relevant details are captured for the purposes of completing appropriate documentation.
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) to ensure full scope of regulatory requirements.
  • Document all workplace injuries including completion of all WorkSafeBC required forms, and file with appropriate bodies, and monitor all WCB claims.
  • Implement and manage proper Return-to-Work program.
  • Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Post-secondary Diploma or Certificate.
  • Knowledge of regional health and safety legislation.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 2 certification.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License for local travel between Greater Vancouver UGM locations.
  • Excellent working knowledge of WCA and OHSR.
  • Demonstrated knowledge related to prevention of violence in the workplace.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience working in a Christian and/or non-profit organization is an asset.
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement new initiatives, policies, and programs.
  • Completion of ICF accredited coach training is an asset; willingness to complete coach training is required.

Work is generally performed indoors within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

  • Physical Requirements

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking or reaching for up to 10% of the time. Employee is required to look at a computer screen and use a keyboard for up to 90% of the time. Able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is performed amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.

Moderate overtime may be required. Some weekend or evening work may be required.
