ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing, this role is embedded within Tourism Calgary’s Marketing and Sport, Culture & Major Events teams. The Specialist, Sport Event Marketing will act as a liaison between the sales and marketing teams to support with attracting Sport and Cultural events to Calgary, as well with event rights holders to promote event attendance, raise event profile and to drive destination visitation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Marketing

  • Work collaboratively with the Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing, and the broader marketing team, to support in development, execution, measurement and reporting of sport event-specific marketing programs.
  • Work with event organizers to fulfill benefits and obligations laid out in our agreements and contracts.
  • Liaise with external and internal teams to identify key marketing and promotional opportunities. Marketing program objectives will include advancing Calgary’s brand, increasing attendance, and activating in our community.
  • Develop briefs (including relevant audience insights, event details, etc.) on key events to support in the development and execution of marketing programs.
  • Support in development of brand-aligned campaign creative.
  • Tracking and reporting on key campaign performance metrics.

Sales Support

  • Support sales teams in the development of brand-aligned bid and promotional videos, sales and event activations, and collateral materials.

Partnership and Relationship Management

  • Manage key event client, stakeholder and partner relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in marketing.
  • Detail orientated and highly organized with the ability to manage projects from inception to completion, prioritize, and meet and maintain deadlines with proven success record.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Adaptive and resourceful with a hunger to learn, flourish and work in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent creative, strategic, and problem-solving aptitude with the ability to work well independently or as a member of a team or group.
  • Experience in event marketing and/or management considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the sport tourism industry considered an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset.
  • Must be computer literate, strong knowledge of database management, social media platforms and Microsoft Office.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This is a hybrid home-office role requiring on-site presence at the Tourism Calgary downtown office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Mondays and Fridays are optional work-from-home days, though occasional in-office attendance may be required to support business needs.
  • This role requires occasional evening or weekend work, including the requirement to be present on-site as dictated by business and event needs.
  • Laptop and cellphone will be provided by Tourism Calgary.
