About the role

Piva Modern Italian is seeking an experienced, hospitality-driven General Manager to lead our evening operations and deliver an exceptional guest experience. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate restaurant leader who thrives in a fast-paced fine dining environment, values exceptional service, and enjoys building strong relationships with guests, staff, and the local community.

Reporting directly to the Managing Partner (Executive Chef), the General Manager is responsible for overseeing all front-of-house evening operations, driving service excellence, supporting business growth, and ensuring the restaurant consistently delivers memorable dining experiences while achieving financial goals.

Schedule: Wednesday to Sunday, 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (subject to operational needs)

What You'll Do

Operations & Guest Experience Lead all evening front-of-house operations as the Service Manager and primary host. Champion Piva's Service Statement and ensure exceptional guest experiences every service. Ensure the restaurant is fully prepared for dinner service each day. Maximize profitability and operational efficiency during evening service. Monitor daily restaurant performance and communicate operational updates with ownership. Develop and manage evening staff schedules. Foster a collaborative, respectful relationship between the front-of-house and culinary teams. Coordinate seamless execution of private events and special functions.

Leadership & Team Development

Recruit, onboard, and train new front-of-house team members. Lead engaging and informative pre-shift meetings. Assign service sections and oversee floor operations. Develop and maintain consistent opening, closing, pre-shift, and post-shift procedures. Coach, mentor, and inspire the service team while maintaining high performance standards.

Marketing & Business Development

Partner with ownership to develop special events, wine dinners, tastings, and promotional initiatives that drive guest traffic. Build relationships within the local business and hospitality community. Stay informed on local events and identify opportunities to attract new and returning guests.

Wine & Beverage Program

Collaborate with ownership to review and enhance the wine list on a quarterly basis. Build and maintain relationships with winery representatives. Coordinate wine education and training opportunities for staff. Review and refresh the cocktail program quarterly in partnership with the Bar Manager.

Inventory & Restaurant Readiness

Order and maintain adequate inventory of glassware, flatware, dinnerware, washroom supplies, linens, and aprons. Ensure restaurant supplies support efficient daily operations.

What We're Looking For

2+ years of hospitality management experience, preferably in fine dining or upscale casual dining. Proven leadership experience managing front-of-house operations while delivering exceptional guest experiences. Passionate about being the face of the restaurant, building relationships with regular guests, local businesses, community organizations, and event partners. A proven ability to coach, mentor, motivate, and develop high-performing teams. Experience with scheduling, labour management, and cost control. Strong knowledge of wine, food pairings, and beverage service.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary of $80,000–$85,000, based on experience. Annual performance bonus of up to $10,000. Comprehensive extended health and insurance benefits. $100 monthly cell phone allowance.
