This position resides in the Ministry of Hospital & Surgical Health Services under the Acute Care Division, within the Emergency Health Branch, Legislative Compliance Unit.
Role Responsibilities Emergency Health Services (EHS) Specialist If you're passionate about advancing your career, we want to hear from you! As a regulated healthcare practitioner, you'll develop and implement policies, enforce standards, and research innovative solutions for EMS. Your clinical expertise will aid in establishing clinical standards and provide critical information for ambulance licensing and legislative compliance, directly impacting patient and public safety.
In this dynamic team role, you'll address EMS issues, participate in health legislation and policy development, and leverage your analytical skills. Building collaborative relationships with various stakeholders is essential. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills, managing multiple tasks effectively.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Ensure public safety by meeting legislated standards.
- Conduct provincial ambulance operator licensing and compliance inspections.
- Provide technical advice to the Minister, MLA's, AHS, EMS operators, and professional bodies.
- Review strategic and operational plans for ambulance services, offering governance recommendations.
- Support the development of legislation and policies for quality Emergency Health Services (EHS).
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints, both in writing and by phone.
As an EHS Specialist, you'll significantly influence governance and policy decisions affecting current and prospective ambulance operators through the licensing and legislative compliance framework.

Qualifications Education and Experience: University Degree in a related field (EMS, Public Safety, Medical, Reg. Health Provider), plus four (4) years of recent related experience as a registered healthcare provider.
Equivalency: Diploma related to the position assignment and six (6) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act. Masters degree related to the position assignment and three (3) years of related experience.
Required
- Valid AB Driver’s license (provincial travel is required).
- Registered paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics OR current registration in good standing with an Alberta professional college.
Preference Will Be Given To The Following Individuals
- Registered paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics
- 3-5 years of progressively more complex management and leadership responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of inspections, investigations, compliance and monitoring to legislation.
- Diverse clinical experience as a regulated healthcare provider.

- 8:15AM to 4:30PM (Monday to Friday)
All positions are located in Edmonton.
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
