Position Summary

The Town of Milton’s Operations Department is currently accepting applications for the contract position of Seasonal Maintenance Operator – Roads.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. The Seasonal Maintenance Operator will perform a variety of operational tasks to support various areas such as roads and sidewalks while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Performs sidewalk inspections of all Town sidewalks in compliance with the minimum maintenance standards and other various Town assets.
  • Document findings and the appropriate action required
  • Mark deficiencies to notify the public of a hazard
  • Perform administrative duties: Document findings and prepare spreadsheets based on budget requirements and minimum maintenance standards
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as required
  • Responds to customer inquiries according to established procedures and approved decision-making framework
  • Maintains ongoing communication with internal staff and contractors to maintain a high level of efficiency and service
  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Perform all other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives

Education & Experience

  • Secondary School diploma required or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public works or parks and/or other relevant and/or equivalent experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in municipal road, park or forestry and horticulture operations considered an asset

Certifications or Designations

  • Class G License in good standing
  • DZ License with a satisfactory driving record is required for staff working with roads operations in the winter
  • A valid Standard First Aid / CPR-C and AED certification would be considered an asset

Additional Job Skills

  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Mechanical aptitude to operate relevant equipment
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Hourly Rate: $26.40 - $28.51
