Role Description The Recreation Manager is a full-time, on-site role located in Niagara Falls, ON, responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing recreation and leisure programs that enhance residents’ quality of life. Day-to-day tasks include designing and implementing engaging activity calendars, facilitating group and individual programs, and ensuring activities align with residents’ interests, abilities, and therapeutic needs. The Recreation Manager leads and mentors recreation staff and volunteers, coordinates schedules, and maintains a safe, inclusive environment during all activities. The role also involves collaborating with care teams and families, managing program supplies and budgets, tracking participation, and evaluating program effectiveness to continuously improve the resident experience. The Recreation Manager is expected to uphold Sedona Care Communities’ mission, vision, and values in all interactions and programming decisions.
Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Recreational Therapy Program Candidates should possess strong recreation and therapeutic recreation skills, including experience designing and delivering programs for older adults or in a retirement or long-term care setting. Candidates should possess effective supervisory skills, with experience leading teams, coordinating staff and volunteers, and supporting performance and professional development. Candidates should possess clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, colleagues, and external partners. Candidates should possess budgeting and basic administrative skills, including managing program expenses, maintaining records, and using software or tools to organize schedules and reports. Additional beneficial qualifications include knowledge of resident-centered care, experience in senior living or healthcare environments, strong organizational and time-management abilities, and the capacity to work flexible hours as needed for special events. Experience in assisted living or nursing home environments is preferred. Background in senior care or caregiving is highly desirable. Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities and dementia care practices. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Creative thinking skills to develop innovative recreational programs. A compassionate approach towards enhancing the lives of seniors through meaningful activities.
