Designated Work Location: Millennium Library (1st floor - 251 Donald Street), Reader Services), On-Site

Position Type: Part-time, Term (approx. 3 months - with a possibility of extension)

Hours of Work: Varying hours as per below

Salary: $26.78 - $31.92 hourly as per the Library Service Assistant 3 Classification within the C.U.P.E Collective Agreement.

Job Profile As an information assistant, you will interact with customers of all ages to help create a positive and welcoming library experience for all. You will provide information, help customers access library services in physical and/or digital form and provide programs for all ages and ability levels within the library and community.

As The Information Assistant, You Will

  • Assist customers in-person, over the telephone, and online with their information, readers advisory, and room booking needs.
  • Instruct customers in the use of the Library’s ILS system, online databases, and Internet resources.
  • Assist customers with specialized resources and tools, such as eBooks, the Library Online Computer Booking system, and Audiovisual resources as required.
  • Assist with Public Computer training sessions and provides computer assistance as required.
  • Prepare for and host children’s, adult and teen programs, including equipment setup as required.
  • Assist in the creation of posters, booklists, reading guides and other marketing tools as assigned.
  • Provide tours and orientation sessions as required.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of the collection.
  • Take charge of the library or section in the absence of the Branch or Section Head or designate.
  • Assist in promoting library materials and services.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

  • Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer-centered service to Children, Teens, and Adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in Reference/Reader’s Advisory work.
  • Ability to deal effectively with other staff members.
  • Must possess a good general knowledge of literature and a variety of subject areas, as well as of current affairs and trends.
  • Knowledge and interest in children’s literature.
  • Ability to provide programs for pre-school and school- aged children, teens, and adults.
  • Ability to operate A.V. equipment an asset.
