Be the Ministry's radar and voice, scanning the horizon for storms, steering the message, and keeping the course steady

Do you thrive on working with data, monitoring issues and ensuring technical information is user friendly for non-technical users? Working independently, with the support of Branch and divisional staff, in a role where no day is ever the same, you will create key communications materials and advise on contentious issues for the Transportation Infrastructure Management Division

About the job

You will:

  • monitor emerging issues and provide advice to Senior Management to define communications issues along with research and resolution strategies
  • using critical thinking, conduct analysis of contentious issues impacting the provincial highway network
  • respond to requests for information
  • work collaboratively within the branch and with other branches/divisions to prepare and coordinate briefing materials, presentations, reports and publications
  • provide support to the Branch Management Team by managing special projects.

You can:

  • plan and schedule your work and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a high pressure environment

Communication skills and knowledge

You can:

  • demonstrate oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy to provide advice and guidance to senior management on sensitive issues
  • prepare various documents such as briefing materials, reports and presentations
  • translate technical information into plain language

Analytical skills and issues management knowledge

  • Use analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to research and analyze issues, identify potentially contentious issues, and provide advice to senior management

Technical knowledge

You have knowledge of:

  • risk management methods and techniques to analyze risks and create strategies to manage the impact

You can:

  • use a variety of computer software (e.g., spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, database and presentation applications)
