About the role

Position Summary The Project Manager is responsible for managing steel detailing projects from award through close-out, ensuring scope, schedule, quality, and budget objectives are achieved. Based in the Langley, BC office, this role serves as the primary client liaison and oversees production teams both in Langley and abroad.

The Project Manager provides project-level direction, planning, and coordination, ensuring that detailing and checking resources are aligned with project requirements, customer standards, and contractual obligations. While the Project Manager does not perform detailed quality control or checking activities, they are responsible for ensuring that appropriate checking processes are in place, issues are communicated, and risks are escalated to the appropriate parties.

The Project Manager works closely with internal stakeholders, offshore teams, and clients to maintain clear communication, manage documentation and change processes, track project performance, and support the successful delivery of projects in accordance with company processes.

Lines Of Communication The Project Manager works closely with Senior Project Managers, Lead Project Manager and may report to the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Operations Office (COO) as required. The role coordinates often with offshore production teams and provides direction to assigned detailers, checkers, and Project Coordinators. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients at the production level.

Position Duties

  • Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as the primary client representative for assigned projects.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status, schedules, RFIs, invoicing and deliverables.
  • Address client concerns and production-related issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure project status reports are accurate, current, and shared through the Project Portal.
  • Project Execution & Production Oversight
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage steel detailing projects from kick-off through close-out.
  • Lead and oversee local and offshore detailing and checking teams to ensure quality, accuracy, and schedule adherence.
  • Ensure proper project kick-off and close-out meetings are conducted.
  • Monitor production progress and ensure deadlines and production targets are met.
  • Issue shop drawing and field packages in accordance with project requirements and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with customer standards, project specifications, and internal processes.
  • Documentation & Contract Administration
  • Review customer-supplied contract documents for awarded projects.
  • Provide contract comments and recommendations to the EVP for review and approval, as required.
  • Ensure all required contracts, purchase orders, and revisions are received and properly documented.
  • Manage and maintain accurate project documentation, including IFC, IFA, RFA, Rev IFC, and related records.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date project folders and database entries.
  • Change Management (RFIs & EWOs)
  • Prepare, review, and issue Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Maintain and distribute RFI logs to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor, track, and manage Extra Work Orders (EWOs), ensuring proper documentation and communication.
  • Financial & Schedule Management
  • Track project performance against budget and schedule.
  • Update project invoicing forecasts at mid-month and month-end.
  • Participate in bi-weekly Accounts Receivable reviews with the EVP and support follow-up actions for outstanding invoices.
  • Ensure financial impacts related to changes and extra work are captured and communicated.
  • Leadership, Mentorship & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide leadership and direction to Project Coordinators, detailers, and checkers assigned to the project.
  • Mentor and support team members in project execution and professional development.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Support learning and development objectives aligned with company initiatives and strategic goals.

Minimum Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the steel industry, including at least 2 years in a project coordination or assistant project management role.
  • Strong understanding of steel detailing workflows, production standards, and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with Tekla Structures and related project coordination tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with tight schedules and competing priorities.
  • Experience coordinating and managing offshore or distributed production teams is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, accountable, and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Assets And Future Career Development

  • Level 1: Project Management Diploma or Certification (CAPM or similar) and Tekla Evaluation.
  • Level 2: BIM Part One Course and Dowco Processes Exam and Tekla Evaluation.
  • Level 3: PMP and Tekla Evaluation.

The hourly hiring range for this role is anticipated to be $34.00 - $45.00 dependent upon experience and qualifications. For this particular position, we expect to hire near the middle of the range. We understand that there may be rare and exceptional circumstances where an external candidate has experience, credentials, or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position. In these cases, we may consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
