The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has a new exciting opportunity for an Underground Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our team at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia on a full-time basis. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.
Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers while supporting continuous improvement and mine optimization projects geared towards achieving key performance targets. The incumbent is expected to adhere to and maintain all company standards and perform duties to the highest levels of safe operation.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
- Spend time completing underground operational rotations, exposing yourselves to:
- Underground haulage fleet operation and management
- Underground development cycle operation and management
- Exposure to bolt, mesh, bore cycling with jumbo drills
- Underground services and construction crew
- Development and production blasting
- Exposure to site financial and commercial operations
- Prepare monthly contractor claims and reports
- Manage databases and conduct self-managed continuous improvement projects on site
- Manage databases and provide support for analysis and data visualization
- Assist short range planning department, as required
- Practice good general housekeeping, clean and maintain equipment/machinery to a high standard
- Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
- Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required
Skills and Experience:
- To qualify for this role, you must be a recent graduate of a Mine Engineering program
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering
- Previous co-op placement, summer work and/or underground mining experience is considered an asset
- Strong analytical skills with effective organizational, time management and communication abilities
- Experience with PowerBI and relational databases is considered an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and Teams
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Deswik is considered an asset
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience is an asset
- Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship
- The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
- Able to effectively prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met
- Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow with a willingness to gain underground operational experience
Work Conditions
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
- Extreme weather conditions
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
